Tiffany technique

This working method is a Louis Comfort Tiffany's innovation in stained glass making. He lived between 1848 and 1933.
This technique allowed a much more detailed project than lead technique can. If we consider that we already have the drawings on 1:1 scale, I will present you, roughfly, the needed steps in making a stained glass:

First it is needed to count and mark all the coulors on each project space;
It is making a copy of the drawing on a cardboard (for example using tracing paper );

It is cutting off each pieces of cardboard which goes together with each glass piece which will be used on the stained glass;
Resulted pieces will be grouped on same category, depending on colours;
After cutting, each resulted glass piece are placed on the drawing for easy identification purpose;

Then the glass pieces need to be polished on a special polish machine;

It is washed up on a solution of water and detergent (it can be used anything is degresing) to clean oil spots resulted from cutting glass equipment and then it have to be dryied.

The glass pieces are folied. The foil dimension it is decided depending on the drawing and stained glass dimension;

After we foiled all the glases and we have positioned it on the drawing, each at its place, it start the soldering, first on some pointed in order to give a small rigidity;
After the first side is done, the stained glass have to be torn around, action which is in my opinion the most risky one: the stained glass has not the needed rigidity yet;

It is soldering also the other side.

The stained glass it has to be cleaned with a little abrasive detergent, then it is washed up with pleny of water;
The next operation will be the patination solder lines; For this operation it has to be used a special substance that can give the dark brown to red / copper nuances.  This operation is very important because the solder do not make this phenonem in a natural way, like lead does, and having this gives emphasis on drawing, colours and glass textures;

The next operation, and the last one, very important also, is washing up the stained glass on both sides. It is better if the stained glass will be sinked in a water and vinegard solution, overnight;

The stained glass is ready, for store and transportation to be placed in its final place, it have to be keeped in vertical position on a wood panel.
